Some people in this world have been pondering the 'Meaning of Life'. Styx alumni around the world for years have been pondering 'the Meaning of 'Double Life'.' For those who've been on another planet, 'Double Life' is the fantastic classic song featured on the Greatest Album of All Time! [YES IT IS!! GET OVER IT!!!] KILROY WAS HERE released way back in 1983 by Rock Gods STYX!! Featuring the very classic best line ever:
'I am schizophrenic & so am I!'!!
Let's explore this further more shall we??????????????

The recorded 'meaning' of the song at the time was of course related to the character in the Greatest Music Video of All Time [no not Thriller!] Kilroy Was Here the movie [now called Caught In The Act -Live available on DVD everywhere & perfectly redone by the Greatest Tribute band of All Time: WNTDTYR!!!] [YES WE ARE-GET OVER IT!!]. Dr. Everett Righteous, leader of the Majority For Musical Morality in the song seems to struggle with his Double Life of being Dr. Righteous &????? This is where everything goes haywire....this has been the dilemma for Styx fans everywhere, the world over, it's not in the movie, or the videos. Was he a former rock star who got converted?? Was he a Roboto??? Or was he just INSANE!??? Double Life??? Triple Life????
1st of all I must reveal, that I, Earl of Rozland...AM DR. RIGHTEOUS!!!! ME!!
NO ONE ELSE!! 2nd, I, Earl of Rozland have discovered the REAL Meaning of DOUBLE LIFE, the proper meaning...THE TRUTH CAN FINALLY BE REVEALED!!!

James Young! He is renowned the world over as the iconic figure JY!! A known genius to every Styx fan everywhere. He is GOD!! Not only is he an amazing guitarist but he is unlike any classic rock star you will ever come across. Forget Ozzy, forget Plant, forget Alice Cooper, Bruce, Michael Jackson! None come in a better package than JY or metaller!!! Who else could write better songs than Miss America, Midnight Ride, Heavy Metal Poisoning, Great White Hope, Homewrecker, must I go on? They don't come any harder or rock louder than the great JAMES JY YOUNG...
No one worships this man more than I do.

So what's with the Double Life??? Is it JY or Memorex??? Is he James?, Jim or JY. Is it JY or J.Y. with the 2 dots between??? Have you ever noticed he has an Iggy Pop quality to his voice?? Have you ever seen JY & Iggy in the same room?? Could he possibly have been in the Stooges??? I can see him singing 'I Wanna Be Your Dog'! Can't You?

Or how about his sounding almost uncannily like Frank Zappa. Have you ever seen Zappa & JY in the same room??? They both play guitar, they both have the greatest mustaches ever. Zappa has been declared dead. Or is he?? Or did he just join Styx??? He is still releasing records you know. I could see JY singing 'Dancin' Fool'....can't you??

Now comes word that the Scorpions will end their career after almost 40 years. They are 'supposedly' German & 'apparently' have had a guitarist named Rudolf Schenker since the beginning of their amazing start. Rudolf also has a blond brother named Michael [Tommy Shaw anyone....????] They have fantastic songs: 'No One Like You', 'Rock You Like A Hurricane'. have you seen these videos??? Have you noticed the man on guitar??? With the mustache??? Look familiar????? Have you ever seen JY & Rudolf or the Scorpions in the same room, have you?????????? I have placed the evidence above....judge for yourself.

So which one is which??? JAMES YOUNG otherwise known as JY, Dr. Righteous, Frank Zappa, Iggy Pop, or Rudolf Schenker??????????? The man is such an iconic figure & such a legend that he has led this Double life....triple life....quadruple life... for the past 40 years. He only chose to reveal his true self on 'Kilroy Was Here' so that everyone would think he was conflicted about being Dr. Righteous & no one saw through it. He didn't know how to balance his Double Life as a member of Styx & the Scorpions. He opened up his heart, wrote Double Life about his pain & no one understood him. But I did! Is there no end to this man's Genius???? Telling everyone he's from Chicago & was in a band called TW4 that became Styx??? When he's really a part of a legendary German band whose brother still continues to make music & was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a member of the Stooges?? Now that's Legendary! JY YOU ARE THE MASTER!!
Styx fans can all rejoice now in the knowledge that we finally know the Meaning of Double Life. You may rest now.

Sr. Roboto looked just like his boy, who'd undergone some changes over the years but with this most recent pic taken in 2007, Mr. Roboto was back to his old classic look. No Botox, no diet, just some good old Styx music & some of Papa's classic movies to get him by. He'll definitely miss his Daddy.

Michel Gondry. Michel Gondry is the man. Every video he's ever made he is totally rad...just look at some of our favorite youtube vids if you don't believe me.
Whilst shooting our lovely Kilroy remake, whenever I felt flustered or unsure about where it was all going, I found hope knowing he was standing behind us giving us that Bill Clinton thumbs up with a little cardboard tear jerkily dripping down his face.
Well now the great Gondry has made a movie about us! Starring who else but Jack Black...Be Kind Rewind is the title, and well...I think he secretly loves us back. Thank you, thank you, I know, great minds...

this year has certainly been very exciting for us......it's also been a very full of extremely strange & wonderfully weird coincidences........

1st of all.....we started out the year playing ridiculously old insane awesome Styx songs we never thought we'd do.....& playing pool & beating the crap outta each other....

then...2......this loon dude finally comes out with the supposed book about Styx....so we wait to see if we're in it & of course we're not....(what gives?!)

then.....3.....the police get back together & discover their real reason for reuniting...to become a styx tribute band

then...4.... shaw/blades decides to try to do Yes......so do we.....with a little help from a drugged out Dr. Righteous....& and while hangin' round their bus the twins discover 'what has become' [ha ha!] of the legendary brian stanley.......when they decide to play a show a week after state street scotty's birthday....and all the while....richie cannata still plays a jam every monday in ny......do i feel a girls with guns reunion coming?.....

then......5....... we become world famous again when the our youtube 'all good people' gets the seal of approval from TS himself.......

then.....6........we are demanded to be remanded to canada for a mega styx party.....

then.....7...... we hide away in a silvercup with queen to prepare for our for canada takeover... dr. righteous losing it.....

then.....8.....the styx & stonez break like there really is a styx!...???????....just like the book.....just like the boys.......yes.... the letters keep coming....the fighting keeps going.......the doctors keep coming......& bad drummers keep roaming........yet with all of it, we still caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy on...............

then.....9....dr. righteous disappears and & decides to put in motion a highly detailed plan to take down those who try to bring styx & rock'n'roll back.......almost burning down EOR's apartment in the process........

then....10.....b4 dominating canada, the taureans go to see the MAN who would be King Roboto who gives us a much needed lift........coincidence???? i think not......

then.....11......we decide to call the other twin on the phone & tell him we're gonna sue him if he doesn't put us in his newly released book about his life & talk about what REALLY happened in 1977 [as documented in the above 1977 rolling stone cover]....but of course.....it's all about the queen of spades.......but we digress.....some secret secret, hey?.........coincidence?????? i think not!!! deja vu??? maybe.....

then....12.....on our way to conquer canada....we run into a place called the 1/2 Penny Pub, so we decide to stop for drinks.......coincidence???? i think not!!!

then......13.......we proceed to take canada by storm & not only encounter a slammin' buffet but some seriously demented psychos like ourselves who all knew way too much..........

then...14...three little kiddies proceed to tell us what to do to our roboto.....one by hangin' with....JY....& the others by helping us protest heavy metal.......coincidence????????....i think not.....

then.....15.......we proceed to take over mt. rushmore.......ok, not really a coincidence, but still noteworthy

then.....16......the twins & the other twin finally resolve things in good old ny & go hang out for a nice complete mani-pedi & make over.....just like we used to....coincidence????......i think not!!!.........

then.....17.......7-7-7 decides to stalk us profusely....worse than 6-6-6......not only does it remind us of G.I....., Live Earth, Old timer's day....bit King Roboto decides to play ny that same day, never letting us forget he took over our band ......AAAAAAHHHHHH!!
coincidence???? I think not!!!..........

then......18.......we break up for 2 weeks ......[we've done this every year since 1977 ] then we get back together to celebrate our 30 years together...... coincidence????? i think not......

then........19....... we plan more world domination as if we haven't dominated enough..... we want space!!!!!!...heaven?.....we already got hell...

then.........20.........of all things to happen....... of all the coincidences........it is out.......FINALLY!!!! CAUGHT IN THE ACT LIVE IS OUT!!!!!! ........on DVD.......& just in time for X-mas...........

The Hard Rock Theme Park?!

Oh man.... I so am obsessed with the 70's that I dvr That 70's Show until it erases itself to make room for more episodes. But what really proves that I'm obsessed with the 70's is that I fantasize about creating a theme park about the 70's where there would be characters walking around dressed up like scuzzy dirt rockers and cheesey disco guys, and there would be all kinds of linoleum and things decorated in that awesome orange and green color scheme. Even the restrooms would have old faucets and old toilets. That would be so cool.

But these Hard Rock Cafe bastards have beat me to it, and I think they're gonna do a half-assed job of it. Now, the 70's of course has all the great music and that's enough material to make a great theme park right there... if done with love.
BUT...The "Signature Attraction" at this so-called Hard Rock Park, is a giant roller coaster (how original) named after Led Zeppelin. sigh. Ok first of all, Disney already has a "Rockin' Roller Coaster Featuring Aerosmith" where they play Aerosmith songs and "drive" you to their concert really fast...So Led Zeppelin-the ride, I'm sorry but it's a little, how can I say it, Britney 2007 vmas?
A Led Zeppelin ride should be some really heavy haunted mansion kind of thing, not a damn roller coaster set to Whole Lotta Love. Yeah I get it, adrenaline and loud music go together, I learned that when I rode the "Alpine" at the state fair.

And besides this totally uncreative and insulting (to me) attempt at a tribute to led Zeppelin, it appears that all the other rides are also roller coasters just with different genres of music playing. Can you say, clueless? Is Led Zeppelin the only band that deserves a crappy ride? What about Pink Floyd? Dark Side of the Moon could practically build its own ride if you gave it space and some hammers and nails. And what about Genesis? Peter Gabriel would totally come up with something better than a roller coaster that plays I Can't Dance.

Of course the one band that will definitely not get a ride is, you guessed it, our dear, dear Styx. And how cool would a STYX ride be??? I mean COME ON!!!
Dr Righteous, robotos, a theater, easter island... you name it, that would be some megacrazy shit!!!! In fact, screw a styx RIDE, we need a STYX WORLD! A whole freaking park that's completely devoted to Styx...all Styx all the time...sick!

It was 30 years ago today.............

It was 30 years ago today......on the ultimate Bicentennial....that the best band in the world...... released the greatest album in the world the GRAND ILLUSION.... yet not 1 month later.....earlier members of this so called band would come together for ultimate world dominiation....here's the whole sorted story......

As you can see from the above pic which was taken 30 years ago when we used to be in Styx, we still looked pretty damn good for our ages. But this was of course when we were all friends....In 1961 the Tradewinds formed with Chuck & John & Dennis, then they found JC & JY then called themselves Styx. They made 5 great albums
until JC had had enough & left, then JY decided to leave also & took Dennis & John with them & Styx was left with just one member, Chuck. So Chuck at this point decided, HA, I could do a better band without these idiots, so he found the great Earl of Rozland & State Street Scotty to replace JY & John. In turn, we then proceeded to find the great 1/2 Anjy -2 Anjy & the ultimate Suki Madame Blue.....

Our world domination began with the songs they left over for what would eventually become the Grand Illusion album. We began work on the album, played the songs recorded it & all was well. Chuck painted the cover art which was glorious & we were all in Styx heaven.

At this point something started happening to Chuck & we were just a bit worried. We discovered he was getting constant calls from Dennis & JY asking if they could come back because they'd found this kid & recorded some song called Crystal Ball the year before with & thought it'd be cool if he would let them come back & play in the band. They begged & begged until Chuck had such remorse. This promptly pissed Suki Madame Blue off. So she disappeared to parts unknown. This was after the above pic was taken [in fact this was to be the original poster insert because we refused to wear jumpsuits...]. Just as we were about to sign the new 1977 tour contract [you can clearly see the pen in Chuck's hand!]. 1/2 Anjy wouldn't stay without Suki so she left & disappeared too.

This put Earl of Rozland & State Street Scotty in a most awkward position as we were about to give Chuck his new name, the Queen of Spades. But Chuck wouldn't hear of it. He sat us down, told us he would bring his old mates back & release it on 7-7-7 & said we could all retain our names as long as we didn't mention the fact that we played all the instruments on the album & he'd give us all a generous fee. We accepted with humility & decided to go our separate ways.....

.....& on August 17th Earl & State made a great pilgrimage to an Air Supply concert in Australia to seek solace from our dismissal & plot our ultimate revenge & on AUGUST 22, 1977......we found the ultimate spitfire again in our old guitarist 1/2 Anjy 2 Anjy after her journey to Bangladesh...... & even though we ran into 2 very un-Styx like persons on the way who tried very hard to disco-fy our sound with awful bass & keys, whom which we promptly released quickly & swore we would never make that mistake again .....Fate gave us our most precious gift....in Miss Suki Madame Blue, after we'd tipped over a huge dumpster in the greater Chicago area.

We found our calling....we prevailed & decided to continue without Chuck & let him take Styx where he had to. Decided to forgive & forget & call ourselves what not to do to your roboto.... WNTDTYR............

well dreams do come true.....................

Since it's been awhile since anyone of us has talked about our dreams, I thought I'd share my recent one with you.

Since we all know the Police are getting back together it is also fitting to find out that they are huge Styx fans. So naturally I couldn't stop thinking about them & it lead up to this........

It all started when Sting called the guys up & said 'Let's back together', 'Cool', said Andy & Stewart baffled by this sudden change of heart..... They met up in NY, at a cooly studio & hung out, drinking, reminiscing & having a good old time when all of a sudden Sting says..."Let's play Styx songs...." 'OK' Andy & Stewart said all excitedly............
so they started playing 'Babe' & turns out it sounded amazing... but Sting wanted proof...... so he called of all people 'US! Yes, our little group, since Sting I met very briefly last year & Andy & I have known each other on & off for a while, Sting had Andy call me & ask me to bring my 'ladys over' & see if 'we were doing this right'..." , so 1/2 Anj, State Street, Suki Madame & moi all went down to show the Cops how to properly play Styx.....wild...!

So we're having fun watching the cops play Styx songs [Babe in particular sounded amazing sung by Sting & Andy nailed that solo, except poor Stewart was just no Johnny but he tried....] all night, drinking, reminiscing, partying. Sting's talking about how they was at the first Kilroy show & thought it was the best thing he'd ever seen in his life & he couldn't get out of his seat because he was in such awe that Andy & Stu had to carry him out....wild... he even said that he wanted to meet them but was too afraid too.....

In Scotty's defense, all he did was send Tommy a myspace email mentioning that he was on the cover of The Onion that week, asked him if he had seen our "Kilory Was Here" remake, and also if he had watched our "Borrowed Time" video... and also asked if he would come to Roz's birthday party.

Is that weird?

Somehow, someway, perhaps by the spirits of JC and John Panozzo, Saturday night we kareened through the darkness of our sick minds with no handrails or brakes, to bring the Baggot Inn the most maniacal Styx-related performance anyone has ever witnessed to this date. Those in attendance were baffled and shocked, but all the while energized and ultimately filled with the spirit of Styx. There was even one confirmed report of an audience member being converted from non-believer to Styx fan.
The wreckage that formed is still a sight to behold, a mysterious smoking mountain of hot magma and steam. Did we even play Krakatoa? I don't remember.

last night's Tommy Shaw dream

Last night I had this intense dream about "capturing" Tommy Shaw, and I needed a gun to get him. -Oh I just realized-"Girls with Guns" ha ha... Anyway, I was with all these friends, who don't really exist, a Japanese girl, a couple Black girls, and some others I can't remember. The Japanese girl had a gun, and when she was gone, I somehow managed to snag it from her. But the gun was really awkward and I couldn't quite figure out how to hold it or keep it out of sight. Luckily, everyone kept missing it, and I was really excited. So I started making my way back to the house where Tommy was staying, which was my parents' house in Florida. I was walking down the road in the dark trying to hide, when my "friends" came driving up in this rickety chicken-coup style truck. When they saw me they got out and suggested I use this big cardboard box to get home, and proceeded to lift me into it. I was still trying to keep the gun out of sight, and they didn't see it. So they drove off and I made my way shifting and sliding the box along the street until I got to the house, upon which I snuck through the side fence and found a bush to hide the gun...I decided this was not a good spot, because in a certain light you could totally see it there. So I moved it to this part of the wall where it kind of melted into the cement and I thought, "perfect!"
When I went in to scope out what Tommy Shaw was doing, he was hanging out with my mom and sister, and there was a big pile of pants that I started to try on. "these are too big" I told them, and I took the pile upstairs. Right before I left the room, I gave Tommy Shaw a sheepish smirk saying, "oh well...forget it"..And then all was forgiven. I no longer wanted to capture Tommy Shaw with a gun. I started wondering why I needed the gun in the first place.

The new Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square is cool for a couple of things, like the hand painted by Matt Groening Simpsons guitar, and the couple of Cindy Sherman photos of Debbie Harry, but why do they make people wait outside for an hour before coming in when they have like three empty rooms? And to think we walked all the way out there from 39th street hoping for frozen drinks like the ones at Dallas BBQ only to find that they didn't even have their liquor license! They should call it the Hard Crock Cafe. At least we didn't wait in that crazy line outside...
