The Earl of Rozland's STYX TOP 100

A lot of people wonder, who is EOR (aka the Earl of Rozland), and what's her beef with Styx?
Well she's here to give you the lowdown, beginning with her top 100 Styx songs of all time...Brace yourselves!
----------------------------

STYX:

PICK ONE DAMMIT!! THERE IS NO IN BETWEEN!!!

I have been provoked yet again. And since I hardly talk here, I thought I'd start very bluntly!
This list was compiled not by popularity, but by quality. It's supposed to represent what Styx has represented, how they presented themselves & how they musically achieved this goal. It starts off on how they should be remembered, I think how they would like to be remembered, not how popular their members were because that in itself stirs a massive storm of controversy.
This band is so equally hated & loved by the world it's ridiculous! Yet this fight is still going on to this day & no one has any idea why. There were 4 vocalists in this band & you either liked all 4? or 2, 3, or 1 & had to deal with the other 2, without any choice. But what that means is that they, no matter who you preferred, made an impact. And that's more than any band in the last 20 years will ever be able to say.
This list starts off with the one song that represents Styx. The one song that says, yes this is Styx; no matter who you are, you have to know that this sound is the real Styx! [& as requested lowercase!]
Also, before you go & lose your mind over this list, I suggest that you listen to EVERY SINGLE STYX RECORD CAREFULLY before you dare to go nuts about this one!!!

i notice you only mention vocalists in your intro to the list...why no discussion of non-singing intrumentalists, i.e. the Panozzo's?

The 'FIGHT' seems to be with the 'singers' of this particular band.
They don't seem to talk about the rest of the boys or what they 'DID', it seems to come down to their singing....& how popular they are, maybe this may change that....
No one who really understands Styx or seems to care about anything else... but us! ....

and beside those twin boys are innocent bystanders in this mess... or maybe Johnny & JC are the innocent ones.... we'll never know....................

Also it has come to my understanding that NY STYX fans only seem to care about these 4 particular songs....THIS MUST CHANGE!!
it seemed this is how they ranked out of 1,043 songs classics of all time:

1043:
870: Styx- Blue Collar Man
612: Styx- Fooling Yourself
513: Styx- Renegade
250: Styx- Come Sail Away

talk about this being dealt with???

[feel free loons- to post your top 25 or 50 if you dare....]
i can take it......

Ok,
Here's my little list of 10
I know you don't agree, but I have my reasons...

1. mr roboto. (gasp)
It's the most indescribably strange and enigmatic song by Styx, and one of the most enigmatic rock songs ever recorded...only downside, it may be too perfect.
2. fooling yourself
It's another beautiful everlasting gobstopper, and Tommy and Dennis fly through this like they're in another dimension
3. borrowed time
this one is like a perfectly balanced stew with each band member contributing his own flavor flav
4. midnight ride
kicks ass
5. grove of eglantine
does not kick ass, but butts do move to this one, greatly because of Chuck's groovy bass playing
6. boat on the river
sad tommy, accordion, the longing of DDY for TS, what's not to love?
7. born for adventure
another Chuck P doozie
8. mother dear
i donno, a lot of good textures and moods, kinda psychedelic
9. lonely people
this one i just like cause of all the different feels and break downs.
It's fun to dance to.
10. great white hope
so when the bell sounds, prepare yourselves, for the main
event!
kicks ass

Cool list ok... only problem I have with fooling [I like the '84 live version better -definitely not the 'new' one] is the drum sound in it, too damn low/bad mix- so technically it's a deyoung/shaw showdown, not a true band song...although that will always have the greatest keyboard solo EVER!! [ooh! new list.....]

of course I still & will always think of 'GI' as a MINI-ALBUM!! [a record with less than 8 or 7 songs] that's what they were called back then, these are now called CD singles!! Sick... but that's a different blog........

but miss 1/2 Prog- i implore you to listen to the 1st 2 albums carefully!! they are just too vicious... but you cannot argue with mr. roboto [you're right that should've been higher!]....

anyone else??????

somehow I keep thinking I should've put lonely people
No. 2!!??!!!!!!
