Worst Song Ever!

My least favorite song you ask? Oh you didn't?
Anyway, I really hate that song
Shooz.....
It just has no coolness what-so-ever.
It sucks big time.

Yeah ok, you're right....it's amazing they even still remembered it....
but I still think their worst song ever is 'She Cares'...
& of course Lorelei....
notice they're missing on the list.. I think I should've left off Shooz.

I haven't posted in a while...but this topic piqued my interest. I wanted to have an intelligent discussion about the merits of the song Shooz...

I think the song holds a lot of significance for Styx and it's history. It was most likely the first song that Tommy and JY wrote together when Tommny joined the band in 1975. So at the very least for sentimental reasons you have to respect the spirit of the song. It may have a been a good time jam they whipped up at a soundcheck one night back in 75.

Let me make myself clear, this song doesn't scream Styx with all their usual classic elements...big harmonies, big keys...big DDY influence. But DDY did sign off on it, so you have to respect it that much.

But one of my favorite things about this song is how Tommy rips on the slide guitar. I think song really shows how Tommy's guitar playing would influence the band on future records. He fucking rocks! I know I sound like one of those women who stare up at Tommy at the concerts hoping to catch a smile, wink or pick...but come on the dude knows how to kick it on the guitar with some soul. I know he ain't no true delta blues man, but I think he's close.

I know already 1/2 Anjy will be screaming "it's just him wanking....blah blah blah" I will respond in advance by saying the song feels right with the wanking...it puts you in the mood to put on your rock n' roll shooz, smoke a joint, drink a beer and rock your ass off on stage on Division Street in Chicago...so you might be lucky enough to get that call to join the rock and roll circus.

An although it might not make my top 10...I like it...

I can't wait to write by discourse on First Time.

ok scotty...
i'll give you the bit about it being good as an inter-band relationship thing, since we all know the styx drama is integral to our obsession.
However, your next three points are completely lame. if i may explain:
1) DDY's "sign off" hardly proves a song's worth; rather it merely demonstrates his willingness to give every song they came up with a chance at being heard, as long as it could at least serve as a dramatic device providing the album with something unexpected, or in this case, something crappy.
2) Yes, we know Tommy Shaw of course is a phenomenal guitarist, but it's his NON pseudo-blues playing that makes him great. Hearing him play blues scales is like watching a killer whale do flips in a pool for dead fish treats. The fact that you're a Shamu groupie doesn't make this any less of a reality. Also, I don't know how close you mean when you say he's "pretty close" to a true Delta Blues man, but I don't think it could be closer than New York and Hong Kong.
3)And finally, yes you heard me and I'll say it again: wanking has no place in good music, no matter how good it makes other wankers feel to know they aren't alone.

alas,
shooz sucks big time
